Imagen corporal de los adolescentes y jóvenes españoles. El papel de la validación y la comparación online

Introducción: Las redes sociales se han consolidado como un entorno central en la vida de adolescentes y jóvenes, influyendo en la construcción de la imagen corporal. Este estudio analiza la preocupación por la apariencia física en relación con la retroalimentación social —positiva (validación) y negativa (body shaming)— y la comparación social, así como sus efectos emocionales. Metodología: Se emplea un diseño cuantitativo basado en una encuesta online a una muestra representativa de 1.205 jóvenes de 16 a 29 años en España, estratificada por género y edad. El análisis combina estadística descriptiva e inferencial (chi-cuadrado). Resultados: Más del 70% de los jóvenes se preocupa por su apariencia, con mayor incidencia en mujeres. La validación digital influye en la autopresentación, con conductas de autocensura y una creciente preocupación por los “me gusta” con la edad. Más del 65% ha experimentado body shaming. La comparación social genera respuestas emocionales ambivalentes, con mayor intensidad negativa en el grupo de 20 a 24 años. Discusión: La imagen corporal se configura como un fenómeno relacional mediado por dinámicas de visibilidad, evaluación y comparación. La validación se interioriza progresivamente, mientras que el body shaming actúa como mecanismo de regulación simbólica. La comparación presenta un carácter ambivalente con variaciones según la edad. Conclusiones: La influencia de las redes sociales no se limita a la adolescencia, sino que se intensifica en la juventud, especialmente entre los 20 y 24 años. Se destaca la necesidad de promover alfabetización digital crítica, diversidad corporal y competencias emocionales para reducir la dependencia de la validación externa.
