Anti-plagiarism policy
Revista de Comunicación y Salud uses the Crossref Similarity Check service to detect textual similarities in submitted manuscripts. This service is implemented using the iThenticate tool, which enables documents to be compared against an extensive database of scholarly literature, publications, and online content.
All manuscripts are subjected to this analysis as part of the editorial process in order to ensure the originality of the works and to prevent plagiarism.
This policy guarantees the originality of the publication, identifying coincidences between the texts submitted and those previously published in other sources. In case the manuscript contains evidence of plagiarism, it will be automatically discarded.
The method used for the analysis will be quantitative, but with a high qualitative emphasis, since sometimes the percentages of similarity often have coincidences that are duly cited in the body of the paper. The ranges of similarity percentages considered for our journal are:
1 to 15%: minor coincidences.
15 to 25%: qualitative verification is performed and, if necessary, returned to the author for changes.
25 to 30%: the report obtained is sent to certain members of the Scientific Committee for internal analysis.
31% and more: the manuscript is rejected
In the event of an allegation of plagiarism made after the publication of an article in RCyS, the journal’s established protocol will be activated, in accordance with COPE guidelines for handling such cases.
- Initial assessment of the case by the journal
The Editorial Committee must review the allegation and determine whether there are genuine indications of plagiarism, using tools such as iThenticate as well as editorial judgment. - Analysis of the degree of similarity
COPE advises distinguishing between legitimate overlaps (such as quotations or standard methods), poor citation practices, and substantial plagiarism. - Contact with the authors
If there are indications of plagiarism, the authors must be given the opportunity to provide an explanation or respond before any action is taken. - Proportionate decision-making
Depending on the case, measures may include a correction or clarification, rejection of the manuscript, retraction, or notification of the relevant institutions in serious cases. - Documentation of the process
Documentation must be maintained throughout the entire process. All stages, communications, and roles involved must be recorded in order to ensure transparency and traceability in each case.
